Celebrating Hawaii's World-Class Athletes: The Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame

The Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame is a state museum of sports history that celebrates the outstanding achievements of Hawaii's world-class athletes. It is an educational repository that pays tribute to the athletes, pioneers, and collaborators of Hawaii's rich sporting history and serves as an inspiration for our young people, encouraging them to strive for the same characteristics of devotion, dedication, pursuit of sporting excellence, and strong, moral character. Roland Leong, one of the NHRA's most successful team owners in the 1960s, 1970s and 80s, is a prime example of a world-class Hawaiian athlete. After a near-fatal accident in his dragster convinced him that his rightful place in this high-speed sport was not behind the wheel, but as a member of the pit crew, engine tuner and car owner, Leong went on to become one of the most successful team owners in NHRA history.

He will be inducted into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony to be held in May at the Honolulu Country Club. Every year, nominees from around the state are chosen to receive the esteemed honor of being inducted into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame recognizes athletes who have achieved excellence in their respective sports and have made significant contributions to their communities. It is an opportunity for Hawaiians to honor their sporting heroes and recognize their accomplishments. The Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame is devoted to preserving and promoting Hawaii's rich sporting history. It serves as an educational resource for students and visitors alike, providing an opportunity to learn about the state's unique sporting heritage.

The Hall also provides a platform for current and future generations of Hawaiian athletes to strive for greatness in their chosen sport. The Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame is a testament to the hard work and commitment of Hawaiian athletes who have achieved greatness in their respective sports. It is an honor for those who have been inducted into the Hall and a reminder that with hard work and dedication anything is possible.
